Being Exposed to Great Photography
Being Exposed to Great Photography by Nick Fuller
The Flickr Show (Part 1)
It has to be said, Flickr is unrivalled on the Internet, not purely in terms of interface, community and volume of photographs, but also in terms of being able to find great and beautiful photography. Often Flickr is dismissed as a source of wonderful photography because is is a free service, but the number of great photographers there is large and the level of beauty and artistry can be mind-blowing.
The mechanisms for finding photographic gems are manifold. Use the simple search, user the Explore function, look at the favourites of great contributing photographers, looking at the many established Groups, some of which maintain a very high level of quality by being invitation only or by commenting and becoming a contact of people that you admire so that you can always keep up with their latest work. There are many more ways to explore the site, the best way to find them is get in there and explore.
It was exactly this kind of exploring that lead me to one of my favourite Flickr contributors Sonia Hermosín Suero. Sonia is from Andalucia in southern Spain and is an extraordinary photographer, with a finely honed eye for beauty in all things. Her subjects are broad in range, but her photos are always luminous and inspiring.
Check out her Flickr username Sohersu, http://www.flickr.com/photos/sohersu/, make sure you check out her travel pics and her portraits, both formal and informal.
Her professional website is at http://www.soniahermosin.com, however you should note that it is in spanish.
